ABOUT THE GAME

You play as Alaric the Spiritrender, a monster hunter who follows superstitious rumors across the kingdom of Kelonia in search of evil, paranormal entities to destroy. 

Your task is to explore the swamps around Darkmoor, using your tools to collect evidence and use what you find to deduce the type of spirit you are hunting. In your hunt, you must maintain balance between risk and insanity - if you spend too much time in the dark looking for clues and drain your sanity, you will be hunted. If hunted, you must run and hide to avoid being killed.

When you feel you've identified the type of spirit, open your journal and select the spirit you believe you've found... and see if you're correct. Choose wrong, and there will be dire consequences.


STORY

In your travels across southern Kelonia, you overheard a conversation: farmers angrily complaining that they don't know how they’re going to keep their families warm during the coming frost. Darkmoor has stopped producing peat, and wood has become far too expensive. What are they to do?

Following the rumors to Darkmoor, you find something potentially sinister. Several experienced harvesters have not returned from their routes, and peat production has ground to a halt. Getting a familiar sense as the facts don't add up, you've headed directly into the swamp, confident something evil is at work here.


SPIRITRENDER LORE

Spiritrenders are forged from an insatiable curiosity, all centered around one idea - the things that go bump in the night aren’t superstitious nonsense. Rather than being driven mad by psychedelic-induced hallucinations, those that become Spiritrenders fight back. Over the course of a brutal, violent trip, they discover that not all of the hallucinations are figments of imagination -- some are evil spirits tormenting the minds of the living, killing where they can. Lashing out, the hallucinator learns that these spirits, with proper willpower and brutality, can be vanquished. But it is still the fight to end all fights, and failure results in insanity.

Those that are successful in destroying the spirit, though, awaken forever changed, and through practice born of their obsession, develop their psychic skills into weapons. Once practiced, Spiritrenders travel the world alone, seeking the evil that only they can conquer wherever they can find it.
